Air-conditioning is not the kind of thing that typically shows up in arts news, but when it means the preservation of art made by Clevelanders, it's worth a note. The board of trustees of the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve, whose business is to preserve and exhibit work by member artists of the region, has decided to install an air-conditioning and dehumidification system to help preserve archived works. Therefore, the organization has begun to raise money to pay for an HVAC enhancement project. They've got an interesting kind of challenge grant to move things along: Paul Wadsworth, who has an HVAC company, will make a donation based on the amount of business he gets from the AAWR's shout-out to members and friends. So, the Archives is asking folks who need furnace and air-conditioning work done to call Wadsworth's company at 440.248.2110 and mention the Artists Archives when you place your service order.

If you're looking for experience and connections in the world of professional theater, you could do a lot worse than an artistic internship at the Cleveland Play House. Artistic Director Michael Bloom and Associate Artistic Director Seth Gordon are looking for someone to provide day-to-day administrative support, including script-reading and evaluation, assisting with program notes, dramaturgical research and casting for the season. Of course, there may be other duties as assigned. If you're organized, motivated, have writing and research skills and can commit for an academic semester or the entire year, that's a good start. Maybe you can't travel to Russia's Bolshoi Theatre or Italy's La Scala to check out those famed houses' resident ballets, and maybe the dance companies don't have Cleveland on their tour schedules at the moment, but for a few weekends in September the Cedar Lee Theater offers a high-definition look at their graceful paces. The Bolshoi Ballet's performances of Marius Petipa's 1862 ballet The Pharaoh's Daughter screen at 1:30 p.m. September 14 and 7 p.m. September 16. Subsequent weeks bring screenings of Dmitri Shostakovich's second ballet, The Bolt, and La Scala Ballet's production of Mauro Bigonzetti's Mediterranea.
